Is WGU Right For You?
WGU is ideal for the student who can thrive with a high degree of independence. The online delivery of your program gives you great flexibility to schedule your own "class" time. Plus, you may be able to accelerate your degree progress if you commit sufficient time and are willing to study hard to prepare for your assessments. You can also take advantage of competencies you already have in your field of study.
What about Quality?
From the beginning WGU has operated with the highest standards. WGU was founded by the governors of 19 Western states (hence, our name). The competencies and assessments are developed by councils of academic and industry experts. WGU is the only university in the U.S. to be accredited by four regional accrediting bodies and one national accreditation body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
How Affordable is WGU?
You will be pleased by the modest tuition of WGU. WGU is a non-profit, private university created by the Western governors to offer U.S. citizens a cost-effective, high-quality education. Federal financial aid is available to eligible students. WGU was one of the first institutions selected by the U.S. Department of Education to offer federal financial aid to distance education students. Aid includes federal Pell Grants and both subsidized and unsubsidized federal Direct Student Loans.
The WGU Teachers College
The WGU Teachers College was created with the assistance of a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, to develop online, competency-based degrees and teacher certification programs for K-12 educators and aspiring teachers. The programs were developed using more than 10,000 state and national teacher standards and requirements, including 25 states' teacher performance standards plus those from NCATE, INTASC, NBPTS, NCTM, the National Reading Panel, and many others. The teaching certificates and endorsements are recognized by multiple states.
